We're proud to introduce the Seafire SX336 to our JET EYES tag collection. This specific Seafire is one of just four still airworthy, and it soars with the Navy Wings. Learn more about their remarkable work here: https://navywings.org.uk/home/about-us..The Seafire:Born in the early 1940s, the Supermarine Seafire was a naval version of the Supermarine Spitfire, tailored for aircraft carrier operations.Driven by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the Seafire first engaged in combat during the Allied landings in North Africa as part of Operation Torch in November 1942. In July 1943, it provided air cover for the Allied invasion of Sicily, continuing this role during the subsequent Allied invasion of Italy in September 1943. A year later, the Seafire supported Allied ground forces during the Normandy landings and Operation Dragoon in Southern France. In the latter half of 1944, the Seafire joined the British Pacific Fleet's aerial component, demonstrating its prowess as a capable interceptor against Japanese kamikaze attacks during the war's final years. The Seafire later adopted the more powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, enhancing its ground attack and combat air patrol capabilities during the Korean War. It was one of the last piston-engine fighters used by the service and a force to be reckoned with.
